In our minds, we form a picture-perfect depiction of what we WANT life to be like.
But of course, we know there will be blood, sweat and tears involved in getting there and only by maintaining a firm focus on our goals can we ensure that we will get to our eventually.
You know what you want. You’ve made a plan. What next? The obvious choice is to execute the plan. This is how you’ll get to your eventually, right? It tells you what you’ll do, how you’ll do it and where that will lead you. No more what ifs, no more procrastinating, you’ll just get started and keep on going.
However, as you’re about to start, you’ll run into these questions.
Where do I start?
Do I have enough time?
Do I have enough money?
And it’s normal to think these things. Even if you have a plan! You won’t necessarily have all the answers to these questions either. Life will always be full of uncertainty but there are things to help you get around that.
You can attend training programs, webinars, seminars, take up coaching to get help with the specific things that are troubling you. Tackle your specific problems with specific solutions. This is the guaranteed fastest way to help you achieve your goals. Why not leverage the information that other people can provide rather than learning things the hard way on your own?
And if you’re wondering what kind of other things you can do to ‘rebuild’ your life, here are a few quick suggestions.
- New career – build a new resume, spruce up your cover letter and update your LinkedIn
- Getting your finances in order – create a spreadsheet, track your spending, check your subscriptions (cancel if you don’t need them!)
- Dating – find yourself a dating coach, create a dating profile, put yourself out there and meet people
- Learning a new skill – read a book, watch a YouTube video, practice the skill
- New fitness goals – drink more water, go for a walk, just show up at the gym
(Another top tip: make your obsession your profession and never work a day in your life! Find what it is that inspires you to get out of bed every morning and make that your driving force. Even better, turn it into the life/career/dream you’ve always wanted to have.)
These are pretty generic tips as they come but that is how you get started. You’re not going to be bench-pressing 100kg on your first trip to the gym so why expect the impossible from yourself from the get-go in terms of anything else? Your goal is eventually going to be reached, you just have to take small steps towards it. One step forward is better than no steps at all.
However, you do want to be careful. You may fall into the trap of trying to make as much progress as you can in as little time as possible. The life of the fast and furious, am I right? But remember, that isn’t the purpose of your journey. Yes, it shortens the time for you to achieve the goals you want to achieve. But without consistency or a longer-term outlook, it can be easy to slip back into old habits. To throw in another cliché, slow and steady wins the race. And I think you understand that too.
Be consistent, be persistent. Use all the tools at your disposal to make progress. Lay the foundations of your future then reach out and grab it. Then all that’s left is to say hello to your eventually new life.
