Simple Plans and Eventually ....

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
It’s a cliched line; however, there’s an inherent truth that can be seen in this line that has enabled it to persist to this day. This concept can be applied to almost every aspect of our lives. Whatever the goal, the roadmap to getting there quickly and efficiently will often involve some level of planning.
Even something as simple as grocery list is an application of this concept. Even if you don’t keep a physical list when you head to the shops, you’d have at least one or two things in mind. Go in and grab some bread and milk on the way home from work. This is a plan. A simple one, but a plan, nonetheless.
However, we know that life is not quite always as simple as going to the grocery store. The plans we need to have for different parts of our lives will be more complicated as well. From planning what to do after graduating high school, buying a house, starting a family… these are not ‘simple’ things and making plans can often be difficult or fall by the wayside as a result of the many twists and turns you encounter along the way.
So let’s change the scenario a little. Consider this. You want to build a new house because it’s something you’ve always wanted. A lifelong goal. Would you build this house without first having some sort of blueprint? You would probably agree that the answer to that question is “no”. You’ve probably also been dreaming about what your house will look already too. So, you plan accordingly.
While in the process of drawing up your blueprints, you realise the tiles you selected don’t look as good as you thought they would. So, you change the colour scheme and adapt. After all the stress and planning building, you eventually have blueprint for a house that looks the way you want it to and you couldn’t be happier. You always knew you would get there; it was just a matter of when. And all that’s left is to start the building process.
This process of planning your house is the exact process you should be taking towards your life. You need to stop procrastinating because that house (aka your life) isn’t going to plan itself. You know what it is you like and dislike, you’ve been daydreaming and posing ‘What If’ scenarios for the longest time already.
If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten. Make a change! You need to take action and get started, even if it’s just taking the smallest of steps.
That will drive you towards what you want and bring you closer to your ideal outcome. It may seem like a long way away and there may be struggles. But you will get there eventually. Just remember, when ‘eventually’ happens is entirely up to you
